Service description
This service offers diagnostic audiology assessments for children aged from 7 months to 16 years 364days ( up to 19 years 364 days for children attending special schools). Please note, we no longer offer school hearing assessments. Please see our ‘Frequently Asked Questions‘ for further information.
The service is delivered at 7 sites over Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Referral criteria
Referrals for diagnostic service will be accepted from any Health or Education professional, where there is concern about hearing, speech or communication.
Please note: we are unable to accept referrals from parents/guardians directly.
A Partial Booking letter will be sent out to you as soon as we receive your referral. This letter will ask you to ring in and book your appointment as soon as possible. Please note: if you do not ring in to book within the period specified on the partial booking letter we will be unable to process the referral and you will unfortunately need to obtain a new referral.
Referrals can be received from
GP , Health Visiting Service, School Nurse, Speech and Language Therapy, Community Paediatricians and Educational Services.
Who to contact if you need an interpreter or information about disabled access
If you have any specific requirements, ie need an interpreter, disabled access etc, please ask your referrer to include this information in the referral or mention this when you ring in to book.
Meet The Audiology Team
Julie Dudek
Role: Clinical Team Lead
Responsibilities : To co-ordinate the delivery of screening and diagnostic community paediatric audiology services within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, whilst also working clinically as a paediatric audiologist.
Fun Fact: I have worked in the NHS for 37 years.
Lauren Mumford
Role: Community Paediatric Audiologist
Responsibilities : I work Part-time hours and am available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I work in clinics testing children from 8 months to 18 years old. I am also the Web Administrator and the Adoption Lead for the Paediatric Audiology Service. Recently I have supported my colleague, Leena, in the development of the service for patients with complex needs. I am trained in Level 1 British Sign Language.
Fun Fact: I have been Chair of the Paediatric Audiology Interest Group for the British Society of Audiology.
Michelle Morina
Role: Community Paediatric Audiologist
Responsibilities: Audiological testing of children aged 8 months to 16 years

Mrs Tara
Role: Community Paediatric Audiologist
Responsibilities : My responsibility as a Paediatric Audiologist is to specialise in the testing of children’s hearing. It is the Audiologist’s role, to lead in the appointments and gain information about the child, as well as any hearing concerns. We then use a range of tests to evaluate hearing, and discuss the results with parents/carers.
Leena Sharma
Role: Community Paediatric Audiologist
Responsibilities: Conducting hearing tests for children aged between 8 months to 18 years.
I also work to improve our service for complex patients and am involved with calibrating the equipment.

Role: Hearing Screener.
Responsibilities : I also assist the Audiologists in clinics conditioning for VRA and performance tests. I am also the Health and Safety lead along with one of the Audiologists.

Stephanie Alderson
Role: Hearing Screener
Responsibilities : . I assist Audiologists in venues across Leicestershire in Audiology clinics for children from 8 months to 3 years. To work together as a team to get reliable hearing test results, using different techniques such as VRA and Performance testing.
