Overview

Service description

Patients receive specialist nursing and multi-disciplinary care from us. Because of the type of service we operate, patients will already be involved within the broader mental health services and will be referred to us for one of the specialist services we offer. We aim to deliver excellent care to our patients and one of our services (ECT) has been accredited with the Royal College of Psychiatrists ECT accreditation service (ECTAS) with Excellence.

Currently we have six staff working within the team, all are qualified nurses.

Within the ECT clinic, we see approximately 100 patients per year and this represents about 1000 individual treatment sessions.

The Clozapine clinic is our busiest service. We currently have approximately 200 patients we see each month for their blood test and monitoring. The Olanzapine depot clinic is relatively new and we are one of a small number of Trusts who operate this type of clinic.

ECT app
The service has collaborated on the development of an innovative phone app to take the mystery and fear out of electro-convulsive therapy (ECT). Believed to be the first of its kind, it offers users the choice of text, audio or video to provide training and support for health professionals and information and advice for patients. It is free to download and available from Google Play and the Apple App Store.

Referral criteria

Referrals should be made directly to the team on 0116 225 2728. Alternatively please visit the ART Nursing page on Staffnet (LPT’s intranet). Following referral, the service user will be offered an appointment for their next blood test, injection or to commence a course of ECT.

Treatment will be offered at the next available clinic appointment. For routine ECT this will be within no more than five working days (but usually less). For emergency treatment (ECT) this will be offered at the next clinic session.

Who to contact if you need an interpreter or information about disabled access

Interpreters will be arranged on behalf of the patient when this information is provided by the referrer.
