Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust is offering ‘golden hellos’ for some of its posts in Market Harborough.
A bonus payment of £2,000 will go to registered nurses who join the inpatient teams on the two wards at St Luke’s Hospital and stay for three years.
This money comes on top of a three-year NHS pay deal that came into effect recently, which raised the starting salary for a newly qualified Band 5 registered nurse from £22,128 to £23,023 before additional payments for working anti-social hours are added.
Experienced staff are likely to earn even more, and the government has agreed further pay increases for the following two years.
Nicola Utting, one of the ward managers, said: “We have been using nurses from our own and commercial agencies on both our wards recently. They do a
great job, but we would like all our nurses to be part of our permanent workforce who can get to know us and our patients in greater detail.
“We are hoping the golden hellos on top of the new pay deal will help us attract more staff.
One of the wards at St Luke’s is dedicated to stroke patients. The other offers sub-acute care for mainly older people with physical health problems, and end of life care.
